About Chivalry
Chivalry is the medieval ideal of knightly behavior. Like any ideal, it was not practiced perfectly, but was a goal that benefitted society by inspiring honour and nobility among the knighthood. It affected not only the knightly class, but influenced the beliefs of the troubadours and trouvères, kings and princes, and great ladies, and it still has a place in modern society. Though the West is in a period of cultural shift, many of our beliefs about love, honesty, humility and courtesy, have their roots in the noble ideal of Chivalry.
Prouesse (Prowess), Largesse (Generosity), Loyauté (Loyalty), Courtoisie (Courtliness), Franchise (a Frank and Noble Bearing) are all the main tenets of Chivalry. They are the proper behavior of a knight, and at the core of it all is Fin Amour (Exquisite or Refined Love), which inspires him to all virtue and honour. This is the code of Chivalry, which all worthy knights aspire to.
